Menopausal Health Expert Discusses Common Yet Often Unknown Residual Effects of Menopause and Why Women Often View These Effects as Too Taboo To Discuss.
For women of menopausal age, understanding what is happening with their body and how to manage the sometimes embarrassing symptoms of "the change" can be a challenge, especially if they aren't talking about them. Recent information from a new REVEAL survey showed that while postmenopausal women are fully aware of the more common symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, hot flushes, night sweats and mood swings, they are less aware of other potential residual effects of menopausal symptoms, including:
Trouble sleeping through the night
Loss of libido
Pain during intimacy
Difficulty concentrating
Urinary tract infections
Severe Headaches
The REVEAL survey also showed that roughly half of the postmenopausal women surveyed felt it's still taboo to acknowledge experiencing certain symptoms of menopause such as pain during intimacy, yet 73% agreed society is more accepting of discussing men's physical sexual problems.
