Matlacha is close to Ft. Meyers and that offers you a variety of activities and accommodations in the city. But, just South of Ft. Myers Beach is Lovers Key State Park and more off the beaten path is the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

Both offer an abundance of Florida wildlife, but Corkscrew Swamp has a 2 ¼-miles boardwalk that winds through it and ends up in the largest forest of ancient bald cypress trees in North America. And, it is amazingly mosquito free thanks to a resident fish that eats the larvae.
