Sandy Sandler provided tips for "craft phobic" parents wanting to spend quality time with their children participating in arts and craft projects that are frugal and green in nature. Sandy Sandler, founder of HPA Enterprises and of Bowdabra, has provided the four key benefits parents and children realize by doing craft activities together and crafting tips and ideas, especially in light of today's recession.
Sandy has identified four key benefits of parents crafting with their children:
1. Craft projects develop self esteem and pride in projects that children, and their
"adult" helpers, create.
2. Craft projects develop creativity along with the ability to think and problem solve.
3. Craft projects teach persistence and the ability of a child to systematically and logically work a project through to completion, while dreaming up new thoughts, ideas and even methods of creating projects from these ideas and dreams…all skills that will prove invaluable later in life.
4. Most importantly family crafting is amazing fun, which creates priceless family time
and memories.
Sandy has identified three key tips when crafting with kids:
1. Children Love to Color, Cut & Glue: Basic supplies to have on hand include safety scissors, glue, glue sticks, glue dots, washable markers, assorted color pipe cleaners, and construction paper.
2. Re-Use Items Around Your Home for Craft Supplies: Parents can easily use items that are present in their household for craft projects including washed soup cans, uncooked macaroni, plastic water bottles, old buttons and even rocks.
3. When You Purchase Craft Items, Purchase Frugally: Plan ahead and purchase holiday themed craft supplies post-holiday to save money, use coupons for in-store purchases, visit a dollar store for inexpensive creative craft items, and search Craig's List and eBay for craft supplies.
