INFO-Desperate Cleaning Comparisons
If your sandwich falls on the floor, but you pick it up within a few seconds, you're okay to eat it right? 5-second rule!
Well, this month, Samantha Bee, comedian, actress, author, mom, takes on the 5-second rule—fact or fiction—and tells us about her own experience in what we call "A Tale of Two Cleans," cleaning before and after parenthood.
We also put the 5-second rule to the test this month—is 5-seconds too long to leave food on the floor before it gets germy? What should you do when that sippy cup falls on the floor? We'll share that with you next time, but first, a bit about your 5-second rule habits, based on a survey we recently conducted.
What "Desperate Housewives" character do most women associate their cleaning style with?
Well, we found out 42% of moms identify with Lynette Scavo when it comes to their cleaning personality—a busy working parent juggling it all—and 36% of moms identify with Susan Mayer—not sure of all the rules, but doing what they can.
Not too many Bree Van de Kamp's out there keeping a spotless home—right? Get real!
Maybe Bree can handle it all, but the rest of us have more important things to do than polish silver.
Other interesting survey findings:
· 65% of those surveyed said they use the 5-second rule.
· A plate and utensils for junior? No need. 69% of those surveyed said they let their child eat food directly off the highchair tray or car seat.
· Those surveyed were much more willing to eat a piece of food that they dropped on the table (72% of participants) than on the kitchen counter (24% of participants).
· Men are more likely to tell their spouse they had cleaned something as their child was putting it into his/her mouth, but in fact they hadn't. So much for honesty in a relationship.
No matter your cleaning style, it's important to remember to disinfect your cutting boards. It doesn't take much time and can help you justify the 5-second rule every now and then. Also, remember to always use different cutting boards for meat and veggies.
